The World Superbike Championship is an FIM supported MotoGP support series, the series is unique because both MotoGP riders and teams as well as new riders/teams/constructors are allowed to participate as well. The Superbike World Championship consists of a series of rounds held on permanent racing facilities. Normally the series only visits MotoGP tracks but from 2018 onwards the series was allowed a bit of freedom by the FIM by having its own races, it also didn't have to stick to the actual MotoGP calendar like the 2016 & 2017 seasons. The motorcycles that race in the championship are tuned versions of motorcycles available for sale to the public, by contrast with MotoGP where purpose built machines are used. MotoGP is the motorcycle world's equivalent of Formula One. The Races are also unique in a way that the races must be within 100km-110km in total depending on the length of the track.

Riders[edit | edit source]

Riders from all over the world compete in the Superbike World Championship. The championship is perhaps most closely followed in Italy because of Ducati and the United Kingdom where superbike racing has been the most popular form of motorcycle racing. National-championship superbike racing is conducted in several countries, including the United States, the UK and Japan.
